Template-type: ReDIF-Paper 1.0 Author-Name: OECD Title: What can we learn about teacher support for students from PISA data? Abstract: Positive student-teacher relationships, a well-maintained classroom disciplinary climate, and student persistence are all associated with higher levels of teacher support. Adequate time for professional tasks, good work-life balance and job satisfaction are associated with aspects of the learning environment that are in turn related to teacher support. Similarly, embedding approaches to individualised learning within teacher education and professional development opportunities contributes to the quality of student-teacher relations and to a positive disciplinary climate. By creating conditions that foster supportive teacher practices, education systems can ensure that teachers are better equipped to help all students thrive.
